Teachers who complain about students, low wages and a host of other issues can learn from Sylvester Franklin. He has been teaching for almost 60 years with only two day off. Check the story below.
HASKELL, OK — 59 years at one job is inspiring, but 59 years teaching math and science to middle school students is impressive.
That’s the case for Sylvester Franklin, whose career started shortly after World War II came to an end. The only place he has ever taught is in Haskell, in Muskogee County.
A bustling hallway marks the start of a new school year in Haskell.
“Well I’m so glad you all are here this morning,” said Sylvester Franklin.
“Make sure you’re ready for class, that’s the main thing.”
Franklin is starting his 59th year as a school teacher in Haskell. This year it’s math to sixth graders.
“Mainly I stayed here all those years because I didn’t have any particular reason to leave,” said Franklin.
Now 84-years-old, Mr. Franklin started teaching shortly after fighting in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II.
He spent 16 years at Haskell’s all-black school before desegregation.
Vibe Is Relaunching

Vibe, the hip-hop magazine that folded six weeks ago under a pile of debt, is being resurrected with a new spin — as a Web-focused publication with a greater emphasis on Vibe’s roots.
A group led by the private-equity firm InterMedia Partners and InterMedia’s luxury magazine publisher, Uptown Media, has reached an agreement to acquire Vibe and its Web site. The new owners say they plan to relaunch Vibe.com in the next few weeks.
They intend to bring out the print edition only at the end of the year and then publish it quarterly rather than monthly, possibly increasing the frequency after 2010. They declined to disclose the transaction’s financial terms.
Wicks Group, a private-equity firm that bought Vibe in 2006, announced at the end of June it was closing the publication after it was unable to secure financing or restructure its significant debt. CapitalSource Bank foreclosed on Vibe’s assets.
Vibe’s new owners said they will distribute about 300,000 copies per print issue. Previously, Vibe had a guaranteed circulation of 600,000.

C-Murder Found Guilty, Then Again Maybe Not?
AP Reports – GRETNA, La. — Rapper Corey “C-Murder” Miller has been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2002 shooting of a fan at a nightclub.
The Louisiana jury reached the 10-2 verdict Tuesday afternoon in its second day of deliberations. Jurors had reached the same verdict earlier in the day, but District Judge Hans Liljeberg ordered them back to the jury room for more deliberation because of a questionable vote. Liljeberg initially said one juror changed her vote just to end deliberations.
Miller faces life in prison for the killing of 16-year-old Steve Thomas.

GRETNA, La. (AP) — Jurors in Corey “C-Murder” Miller’s trial have been sent back to the jury room after reaching a guilty verdict that included a questionable vote.
The Louisiana jury announced Tuesday that it found Miller guilty of second-degree murder, but the judge warned the verdict could be invalid. That’s because the judge said one juror changed her vote just to end deliberations.
He told the jurors to go over the decision again and asked the juror to consider whether her vote was in good faith. The jury voted 10-2 for the guilty verdict. At least 10 jurors must agree on a verdict.
The judge also denied a defense motion for a mistrial.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Miller would face life in prison. He’s accused of killing a teen in a nightclub in 2002.
**Update**: He has been found guilty and the judge is upholding the verdict. He will serve a mandatory life sentence. He will be officially sentenced on Friday Aug. 14th 2009

Via AOL – When the official word came out that Don Cheadle would be replacing Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes in ‘Iron Man 2,’ it was a shock to fans of the first film. Cheadle is undoubtedly one of the best actors out there, but folks initially couldn’t see him in a comic book film opposite Robert Downey Jr.
With roles in ‘Hotel Rwanda,’ ‘Talk to Me’ and ‘Traitor,’ Cheadle can just about do anything in any genre. At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, when fans got to see footage of him in the role, they were convinced he could play this part, too. So much so that when Rhodes’ alter ego, War Machine, appeared on screen, it brought the house down.
